Alto IO em tudo?

Eu tenho um laptop Linux com 4 GB de RAM e um processador i5. Na maioria das vezes apenas o Firefox e o Thunderbird estão abertos e dos 4 GB de RAM são usados cerca de 2,5 GB e 1 GB é 'cache'.

Agora, sempre que tento abrir uma pasta ou um terminal ou basicamente qualquer coisa. Há algum pedido de veiculação em espera por < 10 segundos. Cerca de 10-20% da minha CPU.

Eu posso entender quando iniciar um aplicativo como o LibreOffice, por exemplo, que leva tempo. Mas abrindo um terminal, onde talvez tenha lido em 3 a 5 arquivos? Como isso pode levar tanto tempo?

Se eu abrir os terminais depois disso, ele será iniciado imediatamente, presumivelmente, porque os arquivos estão no cache agora. Mesmo alterar o volume (depois de deixá-lo por algum tempo) causa IO e demora até 5 segundos.

Esse comportamento normal, com memória livre e um processador ok, mesmo esses pequenos casos de uso causam IO (imo) pesado e levam mais de um segundo?

Eu tenho um disco rígido normal. 150 GB / 180 GB estão cheios.
