lshw e lspci não podem encontrar o dispositivo ethernet

Question

Eu tenho uma placa-mãe ASUS H87M-PLUS. Esta placa vem (de acordo com o manual) com um dispositivo ethernet Realtek 8111G.

No BIOS, o dispositivo ethernet está ativado.

No entanto, o Linux não encontra um único traço deste dispositivo.

Nota: a última entrada é a placa WIFI, não o dispositivo ethernet com fio ausente. Eu tentei construir o módulo do kernel r8168 no site da Realtek. Depois de construir e inserir, nada aparece no log do kernel. Nem o dispositivo.

Por que não há nenhum vestígio do meu dispositivo de rede?
