App lock-up no Windows 8 (aparentemente relacionado ao disco)

Desde a instalação do Windows 8 (o problema não aconteceu no Windows 7), meu laptop ficará bloqueado:

  • Todos os apps deixarão de responder gradualmente quando interagirem por um minuto ou mais e, então, tudo começará a funcionar novamente.

O problema normalmente acontece logo após o login.

Olhando para o Gerenciador de Tarefas, vejo isso durante o bloqueio:

IDE\DiskM4

parece que você executa o HDD no modo IDE antigo e lento. Use AHCI em vez disso. Instale os drivers AHCI mais recentes, vá para o BIOS / UEFI e mude o modo SATA de IDE para AHCI.
