Por que o Varnish não está sendo armazenado em cache?

Estou solucionando problemas na configuração do Varnish 3.x no meu servidor Ubuntu. Estou executando o Drupal 7 em dois sites configurados na caixa, por meio de vhosts baseados em nome. Antes de tentar fazer com que o Varnish funcione bem com o Drupal, estou tentando obter o Varnish para um PNG do cache.

Aqui estão os cabeçalhos que recebo de uma solicitação curl -I do arquivo PNG:

Estou recebendo MISS e 0 anos de idade. Se estou entendendo corretamente, isso significa que o arquivo não está sendo retornado do cache do Varnish. Existe algum problema com a minha configuração do Varnish?

Bem, isso se tornou algo super simples que eu não acredito que perdi: Eu estava usando uma Autorização Básica do Apache no site e parece que o Varnish por padrão retorna um passe quando vê o cabeçalho da Autorização.

você precisa incluir a seguinte linha no seu httpd.conf que é responsável pelo virtualhost do drupal.

Header unset ETag
