CentOS reportando memória total menor em comparação com outras na AWS

Eu tenho uma instância t2.medium em execução na AWS na CentOS 7 AMI e notei em top e free é basicamente reportar 3.45GiB de memória total. Se eu lanço uma instância com o AWS linux (acho que tentei o RedHat também) ele reporta cerca de 4GiB de memória. Olhando ao redor da web eu não consigo ver ninguém dizendo por que isso seria. Alguém sabe por que eles relatam de forma diferente ou se é um problema que pode ser corrigido?

Talvez você tenha crashkernel ativado em suas instâncias do CentOS.

Basicamente, ele reserva uma porção de sua memória para inicializar um, bem, "crash kernel" no caso de o kernel principal travar / travar.

Por favor, mostre a saída de cat /proc/cmdline para verificar.

UPDATE: Quanto aos outros 200 MB "perdidos", parece que /proc/meminfo são reservados para uso pelo barramento / dispositivos PCI. A linha:

f0000000-fbffffff : PCI Bus 0000:00

engloba 201326591 KB ou cerca de 200 MB.

Por que essa memória é reservada para um AMI do CentOS7, mas não para o AWS linux?

  • Primeiro, os dois AMI podem expor diferentes plataformas de hardware virtualizadas. Então, o espaço reservado para o PCI pode ser diferente
  • Segundo, a AWS fornece dois tipos de AMI: HVM e PV. Este último pode evitar algum remapeamento de PCI, resultando em mais memória disponível.

UPDATE: parece que dmesg confirma que alguma memória está reservada para mapeamentos de dispositivos. A linha Memory: 4008808k mostra 185496 KB a menos que 4 GB completos (4194304 KB)
