Montando ambos / dev / sda e / dev / sda1 - como isso pode ser?

Eu trabalho em uma instância do Amazon EC2 que alguém configurou. Temos um volume do EBS montado em /dev/sda , mesmo que o dispositivo raiz já esteja em /dev/sda1 e também usemos /dev/sda2

Isso não parece se encaixar no que eu sei sobre a maneira como o /dev/ funciona. Como isso é possível, e mais importante: isso causará problemas no futuro?

Estou executando o ubuntu 9.04 desenvolto.

Os volumes do Amazon EBS estão conectados a uma instância em execução usando o comando ec2-attach-volume (que é o melhor artigo que pude encontrar). Recomenda-se usar um nome de dispositivo não utilizado para conectar o volume, mas acho que neste caso eles usaram apenas /dev/sda e funcionou.

O fdisk parece estar confuso com a configuração atual:

Parece que o volume do EBS foi adicionado posteriormente como sda. Portanto, sda {1,2} aponta para o disco virtual de onde a instância foi inicializada e sda aponta para o volume do EBS. Isso pode causar problemas com programas que supõem que o sda {1,2} seja partições de sda.

Isso é tecnicamente possível, por exemplo, movendo ou renomeando o material de montagem na árvore dev, mas parece bem estranho. Você pode fazer um

fdisk -l /dev/sda

e postar a saída?
