Estou estudando o Apache no meu laboratório doméstico 6.5 no rhel

Criando um diretório básico protegido por senha, acessado a partir de hosts específicos. A seguir estão as regras de permissão e a resposta correspondente que encontro ao acessar o diretório protegido:
Order Allow,Deny
allow from localhost <--- localhost can access the protected dir
allow from srv1 <--- Forbidden page for localhost
allow from srv1.net1.com <--- Forbidden page for localhost
allow from 127.0.0.1 <--- Forbidden page for localhost
allow from 10.10.1.2 <--- Forbidden page for localhost
allow from 10.10.1 <--- network hosts can access. Forbidden for localhost
allow from net1.com <--- Forbidden page for network hosts as well as localhost
Estas regras são testadas uma a uma, não combinadas no httpd.conf BTW, eu testei estas regras usando:
Order Deny,Allow
allow from XXX
deny from all
e nada muda, os resultados são os mesmos
Além disso, tentei adicionar a seguinte linha ao arquivo hosts:
10.10.1.2 srv1 srv1.net1.com
Nada mudou. Qualquer um por favor explique:
