tente aptitude remove gcj em vez
Estou tentando me livrar do pacote gcj crap-tastic. Tentar removê-lo produz isso do apt:

Parece que ele está tentando se virar e instalar a versão mais recente do gcj. Atualmente tenho o sun-java6-jdk instalado.
Uma sugestão?
Você pode tentar a desinstalação do pacote com o dpkg:
dpkg --purge gcj
Isso não vai cuidar das dependências, para o bem e para o mal: ele vai reclamar se outro pacote depender do gcj, mas não vai tentar instalar mais nada. No melhor dos casos (nenhum outro pacote depende do gcj), ele irá desinstalar o gcj sem reclamações.
