Qual é a velocidade real (fluxo, latência) do USB3 e USB2 sobre o SATA?

É fácil encontrar comparações de velocidade de streaming, mas é mais difícil encontrar comparações de latência na mesma configuração.

Em uma placa-mãe ASUS Z87 com intel i7-4770K com memória e Ubuntu 14.10, a comparação aproximada de desempenho de uma unidade SSD Intel de 80gb (X25-M), usando o utilitário ioping em um sistema de arquivos ext4, A seguir, uma estimativa aproximada do desempenho de leitura:

SPEC:  250MB/sec, 
SATA:  240MB/sec, 1000 iops, 1ms latency
USB3:  190MB/sec, 750 iops, 1.3ms latency
USB2:  43MB/sec, 200 iops, 6ms latency

Claro, isso será diferente para diferentes configurações. O ponto desta tabela foi adicionar algumas estatísticas de latência e iops em uma comparação não-teórica. O restante abaixo são apenas detalhes sobre o que foi dito acima.
