apt-get não consegue encontrar o openssh-server

Acabei de receber um dell com o Ubuntu 14.04 pré-carregado, mas não consigo fazer o ssh e não consigo instalar o openssh-server . Eu acho que apt-get está mal configurado, mas eu não tenho nenhuma experiência ajustando isso. Talvez repositórios errados? Alguma pista para mim?

use o painel de gui "software & updates". Na aba "software do Ubuntu", verifique tudo, exceto "código-fonte". Na guia "Atualizações", marque "atualizações de segurança importantes" e "atualizações recomendadas". Feche o painel, salvando as alterações. Então tente novamente o apt-get e ele funciona.
