Para RHEL < 7, citando o RHEL docs :

At the GRUB splash screen at boot time, press any key to enter the GRUB interactive menu.

• Select Red Hat Enterprise Linux with the version of the kernel that you wish to boot and type a to append the line.
• Go to the end of the line and type single as a separate word (press the Spacebar and then type single). Press Enter to exit edit mode.

Para RHEL > = 7 Fonte :

Desça até encontrar a linha do kernel real. Começa com linux16 /vmlinuz-... e abrangerá algumas linhas. Agora você está procurando pela palavra-chave ro no kernel linux, que iniciaria o SO com um sistema de arquivos somente leitura (ro), substitua ro por rw init=/sysroot/bin/bash .

Em seguida, pressione CTRL + X para inicializar.
