O compilador C não pode criar saída de executáveis 77

Estou usando um ambiente linux RedHat onde não tenho permissões de root (estou em uma conta de servidor paga).

Toda vez que tento executar o "./configure" em um novo pacote que estou tentando instalar e instalar, me deparo com um problema devido a um problema com o compilador C e / ou o gcc.

Meu principal problema foi tentar instalar o python localmente para que eu possa instalar certas ferramentas do Python como o Flask e o Pip. Aqui está a mensagem de erro quando tento rodar o "./configure" do Python:

Alguém sabe qual é o problema aqui? Há algo de errado com a minha configuração do gcc? Estou perdendo uma biblioteca obrigatória em algum lugar? Estou usando o gcc versão 4.4.7

A linha de erro real no log é:

gcc: error trying to exec 'as': execvp: Permission denied

O problema é provavelmente que você tem um arquivo as no seu PATH que não é o assembler "real", normalmente em /bin/as . Altere seu PATH para que /bin e /usr/bin sejam os primeiros da lista, antes do seu pedido atual de /usr/local/jdk/bin /usr/lib64/qt-3.3/bin /home/midgar77/perl5/bin e /usr/local/bin .
