Como posso instalar a oitava 4.2.0 ou mais recente? Eu tentei

Você pode instalar o Octave 4.4.1 (até o momento desta publicação) em Esticar os backports :

1. adicione o repositório backports (como root)

   echo deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-backports main > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/stretch-backports.list
   

2. atualize seus índices de pacote

   apt update
   

3. instale o OpenJDK

   apt install -t stretch-backports octave
   

Se você preferir usar sudo , as etapas equivalentes são

echo deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-backports main | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/stretch-backports.list
sudo apt update
