Adaptador USB / HDMI detectado apenas como adaptador de áudio

Question

Meus empregadores querem tentar enviar um sinal de vídeo de um laptop em sua sala de armazenamento para uma TV que eles montaram na sala de jantar (restaurante). Não há saída HDMI deste portátil (Toshiba Satellite rodando Trisquel), então eles compraram um adaptador USB-HDMI. Estou olhando agora para a embalagem do adaptador, que confirma que é um adaptador de áudio de vídeo e , mostrando quais resoluções de vídeo são suportadas, etc. Mas o laptop está detectando apenas como um adaptador de áudio. Como eu faço para reconhecer suas capacidades de vídeo? Preciso instalar um sistema operacional diferente que inclua drivers / módulos não livres?

De acordo com a página de suporte do Fresco, e também de acordo com o tópico com o assunto 'new driver Fresco Logic' ( link ), parece que estou provavelmente sem sorte em receber essa coisa.

Os esforços do cy384 são muito apreciados ( link ), mas o suporte para esses dispositivos simplesmente não existe.

Se alguém ainda estiver lendo e souber uma maneira de extrair algo utilizável do driver Win fornecido pelo Fresco e injetá-lo neste Trisquel baseado no Ubuntu, isso seria ótimo! Mas vou aceitar isso como uma resposta por enquanto.
