Como remapear as chaves com xkeycaps?

Estou tentando remapear chaves diferentes (por exemplo, quero que o "Y" seja "espaço"). XKeyCaps deixa eu escolher o teclado e mostra corretamente quando uma tecla é pressionada. Mas o menu do botão direito que permite fazer as alterações aparece, mas não funciona (ele permanece ativo enquanto o botão direito do mouse é clicado, as opções não estão acinzentadas, mas nada pode ser selecionado).

Estou usando o Fedora 20 com o KDE.

O problema pode ser resolvido desativando o Num- ou Caps-Lock, conforme indicado no Manual do XKeyCaps :

"If you can't select anything from the right-button popup menu, it might be because you have NumLock or CapsLock down. I'm not sure how to fix this, it seems to be some dumb Xt thing."

Alternativamente:

"If the popup menu is always greyed out, or doesn't correspond to the key that you clicked on, it might be because you're running xswarm, an old version of xautolock, or some other program that antisocially interferes with event-propagation. (Don't go like that.)"
