Eu removi todos os dispositivos USB, desconectei a unidade de DVD e mudei o cabo SATA do disco rígido. Agora tenho apenas um disco rígido, com um novo (e conhecido para o trabalho) cabo sata.
Eu também verifiquei o disco rígido com smartmontools:

AFAIU, não foi encontrado nenhum problema.
Não vejo nenhum comportamento anormal, exceto as mensagens que preenchem meus arquivos de registro.
FWIW, esta máquina como uma placa gráfica nvidia e usa nouveau (sem driver proprietário).
