Inicialize o GRUB2 com o RAID5 degradado

Estou construindo um NAS personalizado com o Debian Jessie. Tem três discos rígidos de 4 TB em uma configuração de software RAID5. Funciona perfeitamente quando todas as três unidades estão presentes.

Estou tentando testar o que acontece quando uma unidade fica ruim & se eu puder inicializar a máquina em um estado degradado. Quando eu desconectar qualquer uma das unidades & tente inicializar o computador, vejo o seguinte do grub.

Unable to find LVM volume system/root
  Volume group "system" not found
  Skipping volume group system

Por fim, o grub desiste & me cai em um shell initramfs.

Todas as três unidades são particionadas da seguinte forma:
