Atraso de teclado e mouse durante o uso do Linux Mint 18.3 64 bit com a interface de usuário do Xfce.
Peço desculpas se esse problema foi resolvido ou se um problema muito semelhante foi resolvido. Uma pesquisa não ativou nada, mas isso pode ter ocorrido porque eu não usei um bom termo de pesquisa.
Em uma nova máquina que montei de partes, instalei o Windows 10 e depois o Linux Mint 18.3 como uma inicialização dupla.
A partição do Windows 10 não tem uma quantidade discernível de atraso de mouse e teclado.
No Linux Mint 18.3, o mouse e o teclado têm uma quantidade inaceitável de atraso. Não faz diferença se eu uso teclados e mouses com ou sem fio. Eu instalei o Solaar e a janela de informações mostra que a Solaar reconhece os dois receptores da Logitech que estou usando.
Também vale ressaltar que o mouse e o teclado sem fio funcionam sem atrasos perceptíveis na minha antiga máquina HP de 32 bits, executando o Linux Mint 18.1 com a interface de usuário MATE.

Ajustei a aceleração do mouse para zero e a sensibilidade para 1Px, o resultado é um ponteiro / cursor um pouco lento, mas ainda assim é difícil de usar. O atraso de repetição da tecla e a velocidade de repetição estão muito próximos dos valores recomendados pelo Xfce, o piscar está desligado. Ainda há um atraso muito perceptível entre pressionar uma tecla e o caractere que aparece na tela / desktop.

Minha resposta após atualizar o kernel:
...updating the kernel helped and now the system is more nearly useful, that's right, still some response delay. The keyboard still has a considerable delay. The mouse has less delay then previously, still over shoots and is hard to center over smaller action buttons. Again, overall an improvement in responsiveness, regrettably, not yet at the point where the response time is equal to other machines I have.
