CentOS não tem DefaultDepth

Em CentOS não há DefaultDepth linha no arquivo /etc/X11/xorg.conf para definir a profundidade de cor padrão (embora você possa adicionar essa linha a ela). Como o X determina qual profundidade de cor usar?

Depende do driver carregado e o padrão é 8 bits. Na página do manual xorg.conf(5) (ênfase minha):

DefaultDepth depth

specifies which color depth the server should use by default. The -depth command line option can be used to override this. If neither is specified, the default depth is driver-specific, but in most cases is 8.
