Como configurar o urxvt para exibir caracteres Unicode?

Eu já vi três fontes ( 1 , 2 , 3 ) sem sorte. Eu tentei lançar urxvt -fn 'xft:DejaVu Sans Mono:size=9' e urxvt -fn xft:FontAwesome . Muitos personagens aparecem corretamente, mas caracteres como "नमस्ते" aparecem apenas como quadrados:
