Estou tentando me conectar ao meu servidor FTP, mas estou recebendo

Error: Connection closed by server
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing
Eu não entendo qual é o problema em termos de estabelecer uma conexão entre meu cliente de ftp (Filezilla) e meu servidor. Alguém pode me avisar?
Isso é tudo em contraste com quando eu desligo vsftpd :
Status: Connecting to 127.0.0.1:21...
Status: Connection attempt failed with "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server".
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Connecting to 127.0.0.1:21...

Então, mais uma vez, alguém pode esclarecer por que o Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

P.S. Estou me conectando a 127.0.0.1 porque recebo (provavelmente) o mesmo problema no meu telefone Android e decidi tentar o Filezilla para começar a investigar o problema.
