Use o Huawei E8231 como um modem 3g

Estou usando o Gentoo e tenho um problema com o modem 3g Huawei E8231. Tanto quanto eu entendo, para fazer o trabalho eu deveria mudar de modo:

Alguém pode me ajudar a descobrir o que está errado e o que senti falta?

UPD : Bem, isso soa estúpido, mas por algum motivo este modem tinha seu link no eth1 , então eu consegui fazê-lo funcionar usando estes comandos:

# ifconfig eth0 down
# ifconfig eth1 up
# dhcpcd

Bem, isso soa estúpido, mas por alguma razão este modem tinha seu link no eth1 , então eu consegui fazê-lo funcionar usando estes comandos:

# ifconfig eth0 down
# ifconfig eth1 up
# dhcpcd
