Como lidar com o rasgo no Gentoo na NVIDIA?

Veja Por que o vídeo está dilacerando esse problema Linux? pelas razões por que o tearing é um problema em primeiro lugar, e por que os "truques" usuais geralmente sugeridos (como "desabilitar a composição", GLXVBlank true) simplesmente não funcionam em geral.

Esta questão é mais específica, mas ainda geral o suficiente para muitos usuários: Como você lida com o Gentoo, usando uma placa gráfica baseada em NVIDIA?

Por "lidar com" quero dizer como você quer removê-lo, usando alguma configuração muito específica chegou pela força bruta, ou como você, pelo menos, minimizar os efeitos?

Eu experimentei os drivers proprietários e gratuitos, versões diferentes, kernels diferentes, configurações X diferentes e opções de driver. Eu ainda tenho que tentar gerenciadores de janela diferentes, porque eu simplesmente não tenho tempo para mexer com isso também.

Em vez de reinventar a roda, talvez alguém já conheça uma boa configuração que minimize esses efeitos adversos enquanto esperamos que o Wayland obtenha mais tração. Como sugere kirill-a na outra pergunta: "Então, o problema do rasgo da tela pode ser resolvido tentando drivers diferentes e configurando-os".

Que combinação de gerenciador de janelas, drivers, kernel (por favor mencione opções específicas do kernel que são cruciais), a configuração do X e o media player me proporcionarão os melhores resultados?

Usando vlc com o driver proprietário nvidia e nenhum driver nouveau , não vi nenhum rasgo com vários DVDs - All Seasons of Breaking Bad e Oblivion para citar alguns, e uma assinatura Hulu para o Dr Who e tal em cromo estável. Eu também desabilitei a placa de vídeo onboard em favor da versão AGP da placa listada. Em 3 anos, não tive de fazer nada de importante, exceto alguns upgrades de disco rígido, e substituir uma NIC sem fio
