Alterando o chip de som com o ALSA

Eu tenho um laptop com placa de áudio Intel que lspci relata como

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

Ele é responsável tanto pelo áudio analógico (alto-falantes, conector de 3,5 mm) quanto pelo som HDMI (já que meu laptop tem saída HDMI), conforme relatado por aplay --list-devices

Obviamente, a placa de áudio está configurada e os drivers são carregados. Os media players, no entanto, não produzem som algum. pavucontrol mostra que há saída do player - na guia de reprodução, o controle deslizante que funciona como um feedback visual é "saltitante". Mas na guia "Dispositivos de saída", o mesmo controle deslizante não reage. Na guia Configuração, "Perfil" é definido como "Analog Stereo Duplex", o que deveria ser. Se eu alterar o perfil para "Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output" (Saída Digital Estéreo (HDMI)), o slider aferenciado começará subitamente a saltar. Agora é óbvio para mim que tanto o ALSA quanto o PulseAdio (não sei qual é o culpado) reconhecem o chip HDMI como padrão. alsamixer me dá a opção de mudar a placa de som, mas não o chip.

Eu resolvi o problema adicionando o seguinte código a /etc/asound.conf
