Isso acontece devido ao Intel Linux Graphics Installer .
Eu resolvi fazer o download do pacote adequado aqui
sudo dpkg -i libgbm1_10.1.0-4ubuntu5_amd64.deb
e depois, reemitindo
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-utopic xserver-xorg-lts-utopic libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic libegl1-mesa-drivers-lts-utopic
a atualização do Ubuntu funcionará.
Talvez você tenha que executar o instalador de gráficos do intel-linux após a reinicialização ...
