Dependendo da rede à qual estou conectado, a Internet (sem fio) será desconectada a cada 30 segundos a cada poucas horas. A frequência com que eu saio (aparentemente) depende da rede e da quantidade de tráfego que passa por ela. Isso me leva a acreditar que a colisão de pacotes está causando problemas.
Quando desistir do ícone do Unity mostra que ainda estou conectado, embora não consiga fazer o ping no Google, no Facebook ou em qualquer outro site, eles ainda podem ser acessados por meio de outros dispositivos na mesma rede.
Ocasionalmente, mas nem sempre, isso pode ser simplesmente corrigido ao desconectar e reconectar, excluindo a rede através do gerenciador de rede ou reiniciando o computador. Isso não é preferível.
Estou usando o Ubuntu 14.04, aqui está a saída de lspci -v

Eu notei na janela "Connection Information" acessível através do networkManager que a velocidade geralmente mostra como 16Mb / s para cima se eu posso ou não acessar a Internet no momento.

Isso acontece (independentemente de a internet estar funcionando na hora)
Dois cenários diferentes encontrados, incapazes de isolar o comportamento de ramificação.

Cenário B
As opções suspensas reaparecem e o networkManager tenta se reconectar, mas sempre falha.
A única maneira de saber como recuperar uma conexão daqui é reiniciar o computador.
