Não é possível instalar o mkchromecast

Estou tentando instalar o mkchromecast .

Seguindo as instruções do site, primeiro tentei:

$ sudo apt-get install mkchromecast

Que retornou:

Reading package lists... Done

E: Unable to locate package mkchromecast

Quando isso não funcionou, eu baixei o .deb e tentei isso:

$ sudo dpkg -i mkchromecast_0.3.6-3_all.deb

e obtivemos a seguinte resposta:

Algumas pesquisas no Google levaram-me a tentar:

sudo gdebi mkchromecast_0.3.6-3_all.deb

Que retornou:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree        
Reading state information... Done
Reading state information... Done
This package is uninstallable
Dependency is not satisfiable: python-pychromecast

Então baixei o python-pychromecast.deb e:

sudo gdebi python-pychromecast_0.7.7-2_all.deb

Mas parece que a versão correta do python-protobuf não está instalada:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree        
Reading state information... Done
Reading state information... Done
This package is uninstallable
Dependency is not satisfiable: python-protobuf (>= 3)

No entanto, se eu executar:

sudo apt-get install python-protobuf

Diz-me que já está na versão mais recente:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree       
Reading state information... Done
python-protobuf is already the newest version (2.6.1-1.3).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Por isso forcei uma instalação da versão correta com:

sudo -H pip install --upgrade protobuf==3.2.0

Mas isso dá essa resposta:

O que me leva a acreditar que a versão > = 3 deve ser instalada ...

Alguém pode me dizer o que estou fazendo de errado?

A instalação da fonte funcionou.

Também abri um problema no github , ao qual o criador de conteúdo respondeu:

Corrija-me se estiver errado, mas o Mint é um derivativo do Ubuntu. Eu imagino que a partir de abril o Ubuntu está tendo este aplicativo em seus repositórios e, portanto, Mint fará o mesmo (eventualmente). Por favor, sinta-se à vontade para fechar este relatório se achar que o problema está resolvido. Obrigado.
