Conecte-se ao Ubuntu Server através do SSH pela Internet

Eu tenho um servidor Ubuntu que eu acesso localmente através do ssh, mas eu preciso configurá-lo para poder acessá-lo através do ssh da internet. Conectei a eth1 à internet e configurei o arquivo de interfaces. Acabei de perder tentando entender o conceito de vpn e segui vários tutoriais, mas nenhum deles funcionou. Primeiro eu tentei o link do OpenVPN, instalei e configurei no Ubuntu e instalei e configurei o cliente OpenVPN no windows, e copiei o arquivo de configuração e as chaves, mas quando tento conectar, recebo o tempo limite da conexão. Este é o arquivo de configuração (client.ovpn) que copiei para o meu cliente windows openvpn:

Não sei se estou fazendo certo e não tenho certeza do endereço do servidor que estou usando para conectar (10.8.0.1), que é o endereço inet do ifconfig tun0 no servidor Ubuntu.

Poderia, por favor, me ajudar a consertar isso ou me guiar para uma maneira mais fácil de fazer isso? Eu também tentei isso: link e eu usei o gateway do meu roteador, mas eu não sabia o que é o domínio do NT, e como se conectar através do ssh. Por favor me ajude com isso.
