O Samba solicita uma senha duas vezes

Eu tenho uma instalação relativamente nova do samba configurada para dar aos usuários do Windows acesso a alguns arquivos de log em um servidor syslog ("littleEngineer"). No entanto, ele está solicitando uma senha para obter apenas uma listagem de compartilhamento acessando \littleEngineer\ . Existe uma maneira de desabilitar esse comportamento para que ele apenas solicite uma senha se o usuário tentar acessar um compartilhamento protegido?

Cliente: Windows 7 SP1 A máquina do cliente é VPN na rede local do cliente, mas não faz parte do domínio do AD. O Samba está configurado para o Bizco.com (nosso cliente), digamos que meu laptop faça parte do domínio do Fuzzypants.com.

Eu posso dar a saída do log de uma autenticação bem-sucedida, mas provavelmente não é tão informativa.
