startxfce4 não é mais carregado no Chromebook Asus

Question

Eu tenho um Chromebook Acer que eu costumava carregar no xfce via "shell" e depois "sudo startxfce4" no terminal chrome. De repente, ele falha e não será mais carregado. Em vez disso, recebo o seguinte. Algum conselho?

Nenhum dos muitos sites que descrevem este problema forneceu uma solução que funcionou para mim. No final, eu segui as instruções em link e apenas atualizei o XFCE diretamente:

sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t xfce -u

Isso demorou cerca de 15 minutos, então: estou de volta, em funcionamento.
