Acho que estraguei um pouco o meu Ubuntu 17.04. Para descrever meu problema, só posso fornecer os sintomas + um arquivo de log suspeito.
Minha pergunta sobre isso é: 1 .: Posso consertá-lo fazendo algo com lightdm? (cf. abaixo)?
Sintomas: Quando eu inicio o PC, ele nunca alcança a máscara de login. Em vez disso, parece estar tentando lançar a superfície gráfica repetidamente, mas sempre falha em fazer isso. Eu mal posso trabalhar nisso nesse estado. Eu posso mudar para Ctrl + Alt + F2 e fazer o login via terminal. Aqui eu posso fazer coisas, mas aproximadamente todos os 30 segundo o monitor fica preto e logo exibe 'Sem sinal'. Depois de alguns segundos eu posso voltar para lá e começar de onde eu fui embora. A reinicialização não ajuda.
A variável DISPLAY é 1. $ startx não funciona.
Sistema: Ubuntu 17.04, build pc, todas as partes foram compradas há 2 meses.
O que fiz: Instalei o pekwm e iniciei-o algumas vezes. Também alternei entre os gerenciadores de janelas via $ pekwm --replace & resp. $ compiz --replace & amp ;. Funcionou bem. Eu instalei o conky e escrevi um arquivo .desktop para iniciá-lo automaticamente. Isso nunca funcionou. Eu apaguei o arquivo .desktop, depois que o problema ocorreu. Pouco antes de o problema ocorrer, não me lembro de ter feito nada além de firefox, LaTeX e mathematica.

Já tentou reinstalar lightdm .
Experimentar:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall lightdm
Parece que o saudador foi corrompido ou algo assim.

Você pode querer verificar essa configuração que está em /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/ . Um desses arquivos tem a configuração para o seu cumpridor.
