Monitor não funciona mais depois de atualizar a placa gráfica

Atualizei recentemente minha placa gráfica de uma GTX 760 para uma GTX 1070. Quando iniciei o Linux, recebi um erro no lightdm. Eu assumi que isso era padrão e eu só precisava instalar os novos drivers, então pressionei CTRL - ALT - F2 e executei # apt-get upgrade nvidia* . Este comando ficou preso várias vezes, e eu precisava estimulá-lo junto com ^ C. Escusado será dizer que isto não resolveu o problema.

Eu tentei algumas outras soluções, incluindo comentar o bloco "Nvidia" no arquivo Xorg.conf:

Eu esperava que isso fizesse com que o Xorg parasse de usar os drivers da Nvidia e usasse os que já estavam no kernel. Em vez disso, quando eu corri service lightdm start , meu monitor ficou preto e deu a mensagem "Não suportado".

Não consigo me livrar disso: tentei parar o serviço lightdm, reiniciar o computador, executar Xorg :1 -configure , reinstalar os drivers nvidia e reinstalar meu DE.

Atualmente, estou conectado ao meu computador via SSH, por isso não posso fazer nada que exija a alteração das configurações de rede.

Acontece que o problema é que eu instalei o driver errado porque estava preso no repositório estável do debian.

Ao adicionar backports, consegui a versão correta.

Uma reinicialização então inicializou o Xserver corretamente.

Comandos caso alguém tenha este problema:
