Para instalar o LibreOffice Base, use o Ubuntu Software Center. Funciona sem problemas. (Se o Ubuntu Software Center não estiver instalado, use o Synaptic ou o Muon para obtê-lo.)

Fico perplexo quanto aos pacotes que parece achar que tenho. Até onde eu sei, o Kubuntu não dá a você a opção de manter pacotes ... Então, como eu saio dessa dependência?

É muito fácil instalar o LibreOffice manualmente no Ubuntu. Existem pacotes deb tgz ( x86_64 ou x86 ). Para instalá-los, basta descompactar e emitir dpkg -i *.deb
no DEBS subdirectoy (os pacotes de instalação têm outro subdirectoy, "desktop-integration" - tome cuidado para instalar o deb
a partir dali, também).
