Estou enfrentando um problema muito frustrante com o meu computador agora. Eu atualizei com sucesso para o Ubuntu 12.10 esta tarde, mas após a atualização, a interface gráfica do usuário parece completamente quebrada. Para ser mais específico, não consigo fazer com que a barra Unity apareça à direita .
Eu tentei muitas coisas, incluindo (mas não limitado a) limpar e reinstalar os drivers fglrx , apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop , apt-get install --reinstall unity , tentei remover as configurações do Xorg e do Compiz , verificou se o mural do Ubuntu Unity estava habilitado (era) em ccsm , tudo sem sucesso.
Alguém poderia me ajudar a solucionar problemas e, essencialmente, corrigir esse problema?

Como eu vejo no init do compiz do log o init falhou Eu tentaria redefinir o gerenciador de compiz para as configurações padrão, talvez ele ajudasse
Ou então eu recomendo completamente * (com todas as configurações *) remover unidade via synaptic e reinstalá-lo novamente ou usar o terminal:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity ,
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop
Pense por si mesmo se é útil
Eu também tive alguns problemas com os drivers proprietários da NVidia, mas em algum momento tive certeza que finalmente foi corrigido, mas o Unity ainda estava quebrado.
Eu também observei que usando uma conta de convidado, o Unity estava exibindo bem, então era uma configuração por usuário. Isso ajudou aqui: dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ (teve que reconfigurar a barra de encaixe, mas isso é aceitável).
Eu tive o mesmo problema e parecia que ele estava vinculado ao driver da minha placa gráfica AMD.
Eu o consertei após este procedimento . Eu usei o repositório de terceiros criado por Tomasz Makarewicz.
Basicamente, este procedimento explica três maneiras de instalar os drivers ausentes do AMD Catalyst. Como é bem explicado na página, não faz sentido copiar as informações aqui.

Para cartões mais recentes que o 3XXX, a melhor maneira de resolver isso é instalar os cabeçalhos do kernel. Primeiro você precisa reverter para o driver original do Xorg que funciona. (clique com o botão direito do mouse na área de trabalho e selecione "Alterar área de trabalho" para acessar o menu onde você encontra "Fontes de software")
Parece que os drivers proprietários precisam ser compilados para o kernel, mas não devido a falta de cabeçalhos.
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic
Depois disso, basta instalar o driver proprietário que você gosta. Funcionou para mim.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/fglrx
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy
finalmente reinicie o seu PC
Isso funcionou para mim no ATI4200 (tentei tudo, mas isso funcionou ...)
No entanto, se algo não funcionar, você sempre poderá remover o repositório e voltar:

Você pode remover os drivers fglrx e reverter para os drivers de código aberto (que devem funcionar) seguindo as instruções em link
