O comando certo é:
sudo apt-get install gtk2.0
Primeiro você precisa do gtk2 e o comando para isso é
sudo apt-get install gtk2.0
é provável que já esteja instalado.
Então você precisa do pacote de desenvolvimento libgtk2.0-dev e isso pode ser instalado pelo comando:
sudo apt-get install build-essential libgtk2.0-dev
