Por que esse script bash não é executado no Ubuntu, mas em um ambiente on-line?

Não consigo entender por que isso não funciona corretamente no Ubuntu. Ele funciona muito bem quando executo o script em CompileOnline ; mas quando eu o executo em um servidor local, ele não me dá o menu principal e pula para ler a lista de comandos do topo.

O script deve ser um sistema de menus. Com base na seleção que o usuário insere é que ação acontece. Há também comentários para que você possa ver o que cada seção do código faz.

Acontece que eu estava criando as funções incorretamente para o Ubuntu. Eu também mudei o shebang só para ter certeza de que o sistema iria interpretar corretamente, mas eu não acho que isso tenha feito muita diferença: Aqui está o código que funciona:
