Não é possível remover dados do GPT do MBR

Question

Estou tendo dificuldades em fazer com que o instalador do Ubuntu (e o gparted) reconheça as partições no disco do tipo MBR. Outros sistemas operacionais e ferramentas de disco lêem a estrutura do disco e os arquivos nela. Eu usei fixparts para escrever um novo MBR, mas o problema persiste. Eu assumo que o problema deriva dos dados do Protective MBR que ainda estão presentes no disco, mas não sei como removê-los enquanto preservo minha partição de dados NTFS.

Parece que o comando zap do gdisk ou uma reconstrução do MBR cuidou dos dados ofensivos da GPT, mas só foram efetivados após a reinicialização.
