Instalando o desktop XFCE (pacote: xubuntu-desktop) ao lado da área de trabalho do GNOME (pacote: ubuntu-desktop): quebras de ubuntu-desktop

O problema

Gostaria de instalar a interface XFCE ao lado da interface do GNOME que vem pré-instalada no Ubuntu.

No entanto, quando tento instalar o pacote xubuntu-desktop , acabo com isso:

Eu acho que o aptitude está tentando remover o ubuntu-desktop porque está quebrado:

"The following packages are BROKEN:
ubuntu-desktop"   

1) Você pode ir para Sistema > Administração do Gerenciador de Pacotes Synaptic e, em seguida, vá para Editar > Corrigir pacotes quebrados .

2) Se "1" falhar, escolha "n" para não aceitar a opção de remover o ubuntu-desktop.

3) Para restaurar o gerenciador de login do Gnome:

gksu gedit /etc/X11/default-display-manager  

e altere seu conteúdo para /usr/sbin/gdm

ps .: se você não gosta do tema gdm xubuntu, pode removê-lo:

sudo aptitude remove xubuntu-gdm-theme
