Não consigo logar no Ubuntu 16.04 [duplicado]

O Ubuntu instalou algumas atualizações e, após a reinicialização, não consigo efetuar login. Ele parece aceitar, mas emite um bipe e retorna à tela de login. Todos os usuários, incluindo convidados, fazem a mesma coisa.

Eu estava procurando algumas outras postagens aqui e tentei algumas das sugestões sem sucesso. Eu olhei para o arquivo .xsession-errors, mas não entendi o erro:

Defina a propriedade apropriada para .Xauthority e .ICEauthority.

chown username:username .Xauthority
chown username:username .ICEauthority

Definir permissão para / tmp

sudo chmod a+wt /tmp

Reinicie o lightdm

dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
sudo service lightdm restart

Reinicie e faça o login, isso deve resolver seu problema, se não remover o driver de gráficos incompatível:

Para a Nvidia:

sudo nvidia-settings --uninstall 
sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia*

Para amd:

sudo apt-get purge fglrx*
