FYI para qualquer um que possa se deparar com isso:
- removeu tudo em
/var/lib/apt/lists - as instruções seguidas foram descritas aqui .
- executou
apt-get update && apt-get install gnome-software
Eu acidentalmente removi o gnome-software enquanto tentava consertar um problema no qual eu ficava congelando o desktop aleatoriamente (eu segui o conselho estupidamente em um fórum aleatório). Esta é a parte relevante do iterm.log:

Eu pensei que deveria ser capaz de simplesmente reinstalar o que foi desinstalado, mas não consigo fazer isso (pelo menos não através do apt-get).

Eu pensei que talvez fosse devido a minhas fontes no software & amp; atualizações, mas eu tenho ativado todas as fontes que eu pensei que poderia ter os pacotes tela de fontes
