Eu fiz o seguinte link para instalar o driver da Nvidia no Ubuntu 12.10
Mas não sei porque recebo o erro "falha na instalação".
Eu tenho que notar que eu não encontrei o xorg.conf no 6º passo
aqui está o meu log de instalação do arquivo nvidia-installer.log:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic
Em uma nota lateral, tenha cuidado com os guias que você segue. Se é sobre gráficos e tem mais de 12 meses, provavelmente está começando a ficar para trás do estado atual das coisas.
