Tenho dois cartões de memória de 4 GB = 8 GB de RAM instalados e o Ubuntu 14.04 LTS de 64 bits mostra apenas 4 GB de RAM. Como posso mostrar os 8GB completos?

Você pode ver os detalhes abaixo, eu também incluí algumas informações gráficas (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650) apenas no caso de estar comendo a memória RAM.

É um HP Pavilion dv7-4012eg com CPU Intel (R) Core (TM) i7 Q 720 a 1.60GHz btw.

Seu memorychip no slot 2 pode estar com defeito, mas eu não penso assim. Tente trocar os dois para que seu chip Nanya esteja no slot 1. Uma vez que eles são diferentes, eles podem ter tempos diferentes (não notáveis por nós humanos), mas a bios vai pensar que o outro está desligado. Trocá-los permitirá que o bios defina seus parâmetros pelo chip Nanya (o menor dos 2), e deve funcionar.
