Tente remover as listas do apt:
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
então:
sudo apt update
Deve fazer o trabalho.
Acabei de instalar o Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS no meu laptop. Após a instalação, encontrei meu sources.list corrompido.
$ sudo apt-get update

Por favor, alguém pode me dizer como consertar isso? Eu tentei excluir o arquivo sources.list e gerar novamente, mas não funcionou.

Tente isso
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists/*
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get update
Deve funcionar.
