Eu tive o mesmo problema, e o rack não foi lançado. Então eu fui para o site e fiz uma tradução e aqui está a resposta, funcionou para mim:

Eu tenho usado o Audacity bem em 10.10 e 11.10, mas desde a atualização para o 12.04 preciso, ele não carrega. Mesma experiência com o Openshot e o Ardour.
Os outros players de mídia; totem, o rhythmbox funciona normalmente.
Eu tentei desinstalar e reinstalar. Sem sorte.
Tentando abrir o Audacity do terminal (porque nada acontece ao clicar no ícone), recebo esta mensagem:

Com o Ardour, recebo:
