Não é possível iniciar o X no Ubuntu 14.04

Eu tenho tentado executar o X no meu Ubuntu 14.04 por algumas horas agora, sem sucesso algum.

No início, não há X em absoluto:

ps -aux | grep X

Registrado como ubuntu , estou tentando iniciar o X:

Eu não instalo o X normalmente no meu servidor remoto, por isso não tenho ideia sobre como resolver este problema. Qualquer ajuda seria muito apreciada.
