Não é possível instalar o Ubuntu a partir do USB no Intel Mac OSX 10.4

Estou tentando instalar o Ubuntu no Intel Mac Osx 10.4. Eu segui todas as instruções fornecidas nos fóruns do Ubuntu. Eu também instalei o refit no meu mac.

Mas depois que eu reinicio o computador e entro no menu de reequipamento, vejo apenas as opções de inicialização do sistema operacional legado e não vejo nenhuma opção para inicializar a partir da unidade USB que criei.

Estou lendo aqui que o USB precisa do grub2 e assim por diante, mas se houver algo extra necessário, ele deve fazer parte do processo de instrução clara. Eu passei dois dias frustrantes tentando instalar o Ubuntu, e certamente não é motivador.

Eu também tenho um Mac rodando o Mavericks e eu instalei o Ubuntu nele sem usar o reequipamento. Verifique se o USB que você está usando é um USB inicializável. Eu usei um DVD inicializável para fazer a minha instalação, só porque é muito mais fácil criar um DVD inicializável usando o utilitário de disco. Aqui estão os passos que eu usei: (Esse método funcionou para mim, atualmente estou usando o Ubuntu para responder a essa pergunta e fazer programação nele)

   1. Use disk utility to make a free disk space partition of how much ever space you
      want to provide for your Ubuntu. 
   2. Once you make the partition, you want to insert the DVD or USB into the macbook
      and restart your computer.
   3. On startup, hold down the 'alt' button on your macbook to get to the boot menu.
   4. Choose the boot DVD or USB and it should take you to the installation process.
   5. Once you go through the pick you language step, you should get an option
      asking if you want to install Ubuntu along side mac OS, remove your current OS
      and install Ubuntu, or custom.
   6. Choose whichever you want, whether you want to run it alongside or just have 
      Ubuntu and remove Mac OS completely. That's your choice.
   7. From there just follow the steps and you should be good, it will update and
      when it restarts you will see the menu to boot from Ubuntu, or if you chose to
      run alongside mac, to boot from mac. (Quick Tip: If you choose to boot mac,
      don't choose mac from the boot menu whenever your laptop turns on. Just hit
      'esc' and type 'exit' and hit 'enter', that should boot in Mac OS then. If you want to boot in
      Ubuntu just leave it alone and it will automatically boot into Ubuntu.)

* Não se esqueça de fazer backup do seu MacBook antes de tentar instalar o Ubuntu no seu Mac, uma vez que é muito complicado e arriscado. Se algo der errado, você sempre poderá inicializar novamente no Mac e instalar o Mavericks novamente. Não deve perder nada, mas é sempre melhor para backup!
