A rede sem fio compartilhada desconecta imediatamente

Tenho um cabo ethernet no meu PC e tenho um adaptador sem fio USB. Eu quero criar uma rede WiFi que usaria a internet da conexão com fio.

Então, adicionei uma nova rede sem fio, mas agora ela se conecta e imediatamente se desconecta - vejo "Conexão estabelecida" e "Desconectada" e assim por diante (configurei para conectar automaticamente).

O adaptador que eu tenho é Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0bda:8187 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. [RTL8187][1] Wireless Adapter . A página vinculada contém algumas instruções, mas não consigo baixar o driver do Win98. É isso que preciso para resolver o problema?

Para corrigir isso, adicionei as três linhas a seguir ao final de /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

blacklist brcmsmac
blacklist brcmutil
