De sua versão do kernel, 4.2.0-16, parece que você está executando o Ubuntu 15.10. O driver mt7601u já está incorporado. Veja se ele está atualmente carregado:

lsmod | grep mt7

Se não for carregado:

sudo modprobe mt7601u

Verifique se o firmware necessário está faltando:

dmesg | grep mt7

Se estiver faltando, com uma conexão de internet temporária em funcionamento:

sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/porjo/mt7601
cd mt7601/src/mcu/bin
sudo mv MT7601.bin  /lib/firmware/mt7601u.bin

Agora, descarregue e recarregue o driver para ver o firmware:

sudo modprobe -r mt7601u
sudo modprobe mt7601u

Seu wireless agora deve estar funcionando.
