Nos últimos meses, não consegui me conectar ao Wi-Fi através do Ubuntu 16.04; conectando apenas com o cabo Ethernet trabalhado.
Aqui está minhas informações sem fio feitas pelo script sem fio se isso for de alguma ajuda.
Eu achei que deve ser por causa dos drivers, então eu corro apt-get update e recebi este erro:

Como você descreveu aqui: link para o repositório do R você deve instalar o chave (seção Secure ATP):
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E084DAB9
e depois disso
apt update && apt upgrade
Se a chave estiver instalada corretamente, tudo funcionará bem.
