Não é possível atualizar o kernel após o 4.16.3

Question

Estou rodando no Ubuntu 16.04 com o Kernel 4.16.3, tanto no meu desktop quanto no laptop, toda vez que tento atualizar para um kernel mais novo com o UKUU falha na configuração do pacote e me retorna este erro (exemplo instalando 4.16 .6):

dpkg: error processing package linux-image-unsigned-4.16.6-041606-generic (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

E a única solução é removê-lo, como posso resolvê-lo?

Para suporte dkms da nVidia, o uso do bbswitch e da compilação virtual de caixas:

sudo apt install libelf-dev

Para contornar erros de instalação mais recentes do linux-header : libssl1.1

Faça o download dos kernels mais recentes desejados e seu ~/Downloads deve ficar assim:

$ ll *.deb

Os kernels 4.14.xx , 4.16.xx e 4.17.rc(xx) compartilham o mesmo bug durante a última semana; 24 a 30 de abril de 2018.

Eu apenas tentei 4.14.38 esta noite e exibe os mesmos erros que 4.14.36 e 4.14.37 como documentado neste relatório de erros .

No meu caso, esta noite, os erros são:

Usar o ukuu para instalar os kernels anteriores à v4.16.3 exigia essas etapas

1. instale o libssl1.1 a partir de link
2. instale o debux-modules linux correspondente para o kernel

O kernel que veio com o Ubuntu 18.04 tem problemas de brilho para o meu computador (Lenovo IdeaPad S400). Isso foi resolvido atualizando a versão do kernel.

Eu estava tentando anteriormente atualizar o kernel para a versão 4.16.6 usando o software UKUU e não funcionou. Então eu segui as instruções em (usando o terminal): Como atualizar o kernel para a última versão mainline sem qualquer distro-upgrade?

Para o meu computador, baixei os seguintes pacotes (em link ):

1. linux-headers-4.16.6-041606_4.16.6-041606.201804300418_all.deb
2. linux-headers-4.16.6-041606-generic_4.16.6-041606.201804300418_amd64.deb
3. linux-image-unsigned-4.16.6-041606-generic_4.16.6-041606.201804300418_amd64.deb
4. linux-modules-4.16.6-041606-generic_4.16.6-041606.201804300418_amd64.deb

Então, seguindo as instruções do link acima, eu escrevi:

cd /path/to/folder/where/you/put/the/debs

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Funcionou perfeitamente.

O problema que tenho experimentado com a mais recente série de kernels Linux (aqueles depois do K4.16.3 >) é que os arquivos "linux-image.deb" NÃO estão assinados. É a falta de arquivos binários assinados que está causando todos os problemas, ou seja, não consegue instalar, sistema apenas borks em qualquer tentativa.

A única solução para IMO é segurar e aguardar pacientemente pela próxima grande versão do kernel, ou seja, K.4.17 ou mesmo K5.0, na esperança de que os arquivos linux-imge.deb necessários incluam a assinatura de chave necessária e, assim, instalar sem quaisquer dificuldades.

Estou rodando o linux mint 18.3 com base no xenial e consegui instalar o kernel 4.17 do mainline.
